 Background and History

 

The Smiling Cloud Foundation is dedicated to research and development of programs that enhance human experience and potential while expanding and supporting the growth of long term quality relationships of all kinds. Within that mission, over the past twenty years we have designed and offered over 200 educational programs on a wide range of topics.

 

Jim & Cindy met in 2008 as she was living in Jacksonville and he was in Key West by way of some poetry he posted on-line discovering they shared a rare connection, vision, and sense of fun and adventure.  They both had grown children from a past marriage, just turned 50, and had similar backgrounds and interests in medical and other fields.  Cindy moved to Key West and made possible a complete rebirth of Tantra and other programs into the Lovers' Academy while sparking the creation of dozens of new programs.

Most people don't believe the few roles and aspects noted above can part of one person without conflict but these and more are what make up the founder of the Foundation. 

 

Born as one of five brothers in upstate NY, Jim was an emancipated minor at age 13, married at age 16, finished high school in 2 years instead of four and applied what some called a photographic memory and high I.Q. to the many companies he started and ran throughout his life.   He also loved being a Firefighter Paramedic along with the half dozen other jobs he always had at the same time. 

 

In 1986, a drunk driver hit him head-on at high speed resulting in his first resuscitation and near death experience.  Only 31 at the time with his wife and two children to support his injuries were severe and devastating.  He was told he would never walk again nor have sex so from a wheel chair he researched both ancient and modern sexual knowledge sources so he might save his marriage to his childhood sweet heart.   He did not save the marriage the started sharing what he learned about sex for the handicapped with others and soon he was being asked to teach programs for both the disabled and healthy adults.

 

In the 1990's Tantra programs became popular and Jim developed his own "practical tantric" workshops and seminars.   Tantra weaves the mystical and magical into relationships to strengthen and prolong marriages and unions of all kinds.  He slowly regained the ability to walk and a decade later a return to normal sexual capacity. 

 

Also in the 90's he was CEO of a major international consulting company which specialized in hazardous material project management.   He went on to receive patents for infection control devices and bioterrorism response equipment and often consulted for the Government, Military, Academic and corporate clients. Other programs focus on very different topics such as “Graceful Exit” a program designed for the final preparation for leaving the human experience and transition to non physical form.

 

The foundation was formed September 11, 2003 by Jim Thomsen, a former NY Fireman and paramedic who completed his last fire service call at the WTC on 911. After two years of wandering the country in a old RV, and spending months writing in contemplative mediation while he lived at a Zen Monastery he discovered the tragedy in life is not in dying, but in never living. A Christian Buddhist with many past lives in several fields, he found the creative and open minds of Key West to be authentic ground in which to be of service to others. An artist, writer, inventor ordained Minister and noted speaker, he has turned his life and disabilities into service to humanity in ways that are unorthodox, and unusual to be sure. As the vision evolves, products and programs will like life itself be born, grow and then pass away for new ideas to have their time on the creative stage. He presents programs for all kinds of groups and alternative lifestyles.

 

Cindy Woolf joined the Smiling Cloud team in 2008 and besides providing her own workshops and presentations she brings her talents in office and business administration needed to balance the creative energies and personalities of the organization. The organization blends a wide and diverse range of talents, interests, and expertise including those who are Stand Up Comics, Writers, Poets, Sex Researchers, Relationship Counselors, Inventors, Nudists, Swingers, Mystics, Ministers, Monks, Nerds, and Entertainers.

 

Our Tantra and other programs were requested by Marriage Encounter and Church Groups, Nudist Groups, Lifestyle Groups, Polyamory Groups, and therapists which provided many chance meetings with very unique perspectives.

 

In 2003 while serving as Treasurer of the Key West Writers Guild and the Director of Religious Education for a Key West Church, Jim met Dr. John Perry PhD. who was the author of the 1981 NY Times Best Seller "The G Spot". They decided to continue the sexual research format used by Dr. Alfred Kinsey in the last century to define the current sexual and relationship facts in the United States in this century.

 

The result was a book written by Jim Thomsen called "Orgasm Mastership" now in publication on line and in print. Combining spiritual and relationship presentations such as "Soul Mates" with the sexual information of "Orgasm Mastership" the Lovers Academy program was born.

 

Jim Thomsen is a rare blend of opposites such as nudist and Buddhist or Minister and Sex Researcher and a Writer/Poet while also a scientist. Having a dozens of careers, entrepreneur, inventor and even stand up comic he continually reinvents himself in service to others.

 

In December of 2006, Jim completed his Bachelor of Divinity and became ordained as part of the Universal Brotherhood Movement which is a 25 year old international ministry dedicated to spiritual service. Focusing on training and writing, Jim continues to develop on line and live spiritual development programs on diverse and often sensitive topics. The Smiling Cloud Foundation brings together diverse people and experiences to weave a magical tapestry in the tropical paradise called Key West.
